Tackling Unconscious Bias in FinTech Panel 

During FinTech Enablement Track

Recognizing unconscious bias has a tremendous impact on the culture and sustainability of businesses, this session will highlight recent study results related to the impact of unconscious bias on organizations. Hear from top executives in the FinTech sector how they have experienced that impact first hand and how they deal with it. The panel will address the effects of unconscious bias in the following key areas: 

-Talent Acquisition and Management
-Negotiations
-Calculating Risks

Questions this session is intended to answer:

What is unconscious bias?
Why is it important to be aware of unconscious bias?
Once recognized, how do you navigate and overcome bias' that could adversely impact your business/team?

Stephanie is a Product Manager at Fiserv overseeing the rollout of new payment products. Previously, she worked for the Western Union Company for many years and held roles of increasing responsibility from Intern to Senior Regional Manager, leading a global cross-functional team and overseeing $50M+ in revenue, 1,000+ agent locations spread over 13 unique territories. Stephanie’s corporate experience over the years has exposed her to sales, marketing, business development, account management, operations and P&L management making her a well-rounded Product Manager.

Esther leads the Product Strategy team for FIS Banking & Payments that spans core banking, retail and corporate payments, merchant, network, fraud and loyalty programs. By maintaining a 360 view of future trends and competitive impacts to the banking and payments landscape, the Product Strategy team serves as the "voice of the market" to align investment strategies with business and product partners.

 

Prior to her current role, Esther served as industry ambassador and platform expert for clearXchange, now Zelle, to establish the network in market. Additionally, Esther led product management and strategy teams at FIS, Fiserv and Bank of America. She began her career with Chase in Private and Commercial Banking.

 

Esther currently serves on the FinTech Atlanta Board/Executive Committee, the FinTech Board of the Technology Association of Georgia and theAmerican Transaction Processing Coalition Policy Committee.She holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and completed the Advanced Topics in Cash Management at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.She is a Certified Cash Manager and is Pragmatic Marketing certified.


Nicole Baxby is an Account Director at Featurespace responsible for key North American accounts. Nicole works with financial institutions to help them leverage Featurespace’s machine learning and AI solutions to fight fraud. She brings over 14 years of expertise in the financial technology industry, most recently working in FinTech consulting with TSYS International based in the United Kingdom. Nicole was recognized as part of 2018 Money 20/20 Rise Up program, serves as a Wnet Rise Up Ambassador and was also named Georgia Forward's 2019 Young Gamechanger. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from CSU.

   Todd Doherty based out of Atlanta, GA

Todd Doherty recently was tasked with creating and leading the Professional Services Strategy and Enablement team for the FRMS business at Fiserv.
 
Todd joined Fiserv after leading the TSYS Analytics business as part of the Global Product Group.  As leader of this $30 million revenue global business, he was responsible for client management, technology, product development, management and marketing.
 
He previously served as VP, Operations Group Manager for RBS Citizens Bank. During his RBS Citizens career, Todd managed teams in operations, vendor management, product support and product delivery. He is a distinguished Chairman Award winner from 2012 and graduate of the Executive Leadership Development Program at Babson University.
 
Todd has held positions with GE Consumer Finance, MCI/WorldCom and several start up organizations with positions ranging from client relations, marketing, product management, vendor management and strategy. With his breadth of industry experience, he is known for his ability to deliver results to customers and partners through constant collaboration.
 
Todd is also President of Reid & Todd Jewelers.  This 130 year old retail business is Todd’s namesake and he is the 5th generation to operate the business.
 
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Central Connecticut.  He has served on the board of directors for Sterling House Community Center in Stratford, CT and as a United Way Executive and mentor within the community for several youth sports organizations.
 
Todd is a recent transplant from Connecticut with his wife and two daughters.  He enjoys just about all outdoor activities, photography and cross training fitness.
   
With Watson Director in IBM Talent Management Solutions
Michele Swearingen currently serves as the Worldwide Director of  Watson Talent for IBM in Atlanta. She joined in 2012 to help expand IBM's Talent Management Solutions business. Throughout her career, Michele has helped companies  implement solutions to develop new skills and collaborate with their colleagues across the globe. 

Michele graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Employment Relations.  She began her career recruiting and has been working in the HR technology space selling SaaS solutions for over 20 years.  She has worked with organizations like Shell Oil, Darden Restaurants, Texas Instruments, Accenture, and The Coca-Cola Company. 

Over the last several years, Michele has been helping companies transform their workforce, drive costs saving and improve employee productivity through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Michele has spent her career helping companies transform their business while inspiring people and the way they work.
